Announcing Animenomics
New publication to make information on the business of anime and manga accessible to fans

Animenomics launches today as an independent publication covering the business of anime and manga, from the companies that produce them to the fans that consume their works around the world.
Some context: Anime and manga have become global over the past decade. At the same time, both industries have also consolidated significantly.
Independent anime distributors have been acquired by Sony and Aniplex, and big tech companies in China and the U.S. have also invested in anime content.
Vertical, a manga publisher in the U.S., folded into Kodansha’s American division. Crunchyroll purchased majority interest in Viz Media Europe.
Publishing giant Kadokawa acquired the news website Anime News Network, and MyAnimeList was bought by a Japanese e-book distributor.
Bottom line: Anime and manga are no longer just the realm of fans. They are big business, and the news reporting should reflect that condition. Animenomics will make the business of anime and manga accessible to fans.
Subscribers will receive a newsletter issue once a week on Wednesday mornings, with alternating focuses on anime and manga.
About the publisher: Richardson Handjaja previously served as the News Managing Editor at MyAnimeList and has observed the anime and manga industries for more than ten years, covering North America and East and Southeast Asia.
